He was elected unopposed by the committee at the chambers today.
Moerane served as a member of the mayoral committee for environment and infrastructure services.
The Alexandra born replaces the former mayor Jolidee Matongo, who tragically died in a car crash in September.
The seasoned politician Moerane also served under the leadership of former mayor Geoff Makhubo.
In his acceptance speech Moerane said at the media brief: “We are not new to the streets and as the new Executive Mayor we continue with what we do best. We carry on with our promise of service delivery, starting in Alexander, my home”, says Moerane, a member of the ruling party ANC.
He said that he would continue where Matongo left off: “We must continue to wage the war to accelerate the delivery services to all the residents of our city. We must continue with the accelerated service delivery programme started by Mayor Makhubo and duly followed by Mayor Matongo in ensuring that services are rendered. We must continue to hold officials accountable.”
Moerane indicated there will be no changes in the MMCs posts as part of continuity.
