That’s Soweto’s Finest dance crew for you. This only male group are choreographers and performers of all genres.
Describing themselves as ‘kings of prime time entertainment’ the group will celebrate its 10th year celebration with their latest ‘Uzeleni’ loosely translated -why did you come then- a reference to those who nag at parties.
Because they’ve been around and their input in the dance industry has gone unnoticed the song has been fine-tuned and doctored by one of SA’s best producers DJ Cleo, who also appears on the song.
Albeit, unknown to the uninitiated, the group has had a sterling background having featured in the closing ceremony for the 2010 World Cup and in 2014 their Europe Tour was a sold out affair.
In 2015 they launched their 1hour show at Soweto Theatre that featured trailblazers Micasa, as a result they were invited to perform in Chad.
They’ve been to Namibia twice this year and have showcased at the Namibia Annual Music Awards (NAMAs). Recently, the group was the opening act for female-bender Trey Songz.
Led by Thomas Chauke –no relation to our music Shangaan king Dr Chauke- we managed to sustain the business by dance performances through bookings, hosting our own events and workshops and also choreographing music videos for well-known SA musicians, says Chauke, who is the choreographer and co- founder of the group, who are all under 30s.
These are some of the brands they’ve worked with Somizi Mhlongo, Micasa, Professor, Oskido, DjTira, DjCleo, El’Vovo, CassperNyovest, Character and Moneoa.
Soweto’s Finest will launch their second single launch offering ‘Uzeleni’ at News Cafe-Maponya Mall, Soweto on Friday 14, where they will also display their “Sbhujwa” sneakers marketed by global clothing giant Pierre Cardin.
You have to experience their performance to understand! #FromSowetoToTheWorld
