The 2014 Gauteng Sport Awards nominees have been unveiled.

They were held at the swanky The Venue, Melrose Arch, which was packed to raptures by both celebrities and sport figures.

The fourth Gauteng Sport Awards will be hosted on June 7 at Vodadome, Midrand.

In totality 16 categories were identified out of an overwhelming 194 nominations.

Addressing the media brief before the actual ceremony, Professor Denver Hendricks, chairperson for the Adjudication Panel of the Gauteng Sport Awards said, this year they received more entries than other years’.

“This shows the credibility and trust federations have bestowed upon,” says Hendricks who is a Professor at University of Pretoria.

“The adjudicating panel worked tirelessly to whittle down the number which also showed the professionalism and cooperation from all stakeholders: department of sport, the audit team and the sport federations. Fortunately, we did not experience any major hiccups. I guess having been with the adjudicating panel for five years’ has paid dividends.”

“If any member(s) of the panel was in any form related to the nominees they would have to step down,” he continued.

The mandate of the Adjudicating Panel is also to come up with the rule book which gives guidelines to the awards, amongst others.

The workshop took three-days to finalise the nominees list.
