Innocent soul departed. The likable Banele Sindane was shot dead at his house. Investigations are on going according to the Police.

The former South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee and Athletics SA chief executive was shot dead at his house in Ruimsig, Randburg, in front of his daughter on Monday.

On Tuesday, his large family gathered at his, trying to make sense of the deadly home invasion. The attack, which left Sindani’s daughter traumatised, happened in the early hours of Monday.

Police provincial spokesman Captain Tsekiso Mofokeng said the three men arrived at the boom gate to The Campus Complex in Ruimsig around 2am. The trio overpowered the on-duty Viper Risk Management security guard, with one of the men left to watch over him as the other two went further into the complex.

The pair somehow managed to get up to the balcony on the back side of the duplex home and broke a window to try to gain access.

Sindani was the first chief executive of Sascoc in 2005 and later headed administration at Athletics South Africa. He was also responsible for organising the Soweto Marathon Trust.

Messages of condolences have been pouring in from sporting bosses and Gvt officials, including MEC for Sport in GP and minister Fikile Mbalula of Sport.

As yet, no arrests have been made and investigations are on going.

Sindani’s memorial is expected this week and burial on weekend.

*I had the privilege to meet and interview the late during his tenure as CE at ASA. I was fortunate because his PA (Thando) who was our former secretary at eVibe Magazine before being lured to join the association, made sure we got breaking news timeously.

Rest in Peace bhuti!!
