Kereleng Ramoisa, from Diepkloof was arrested following the abduction of a newborn baby at Chris Hani Baragwanath hospital last week.
The baby was abducted at the maternity ward.
As a result police launched a man-hunt and Ramoisa (29) was arrested in Diepkloof, a walk from Bara Hospital, with the help of community.
MEC for Health in GP Dr Bandile Masuku visited the hospital and promised the mother and family of the newborn baby that they will not rest until the perpetrator was behind bars.
Ramoisa appeared briefly in the Protea magistrate’s court on Tuesday for child stealing.
Residents of Diepkloof who attended the court case also called for justice to be served on Ramoisa.
“How can a young person like this be part of such a painful act, we want to know why she did it,” said a resident.
Today Ramoisa will appear in court for a formal bail application.
