Winners. 2016 RedSquare dance winners Survivors’ Crew displaying what led them to victory at the finals in Soshanguve.

They out-danced last years’ winners Soulistic Fusion from Soweto, at the finals held at the packed to raptures Hopes Tavern in Soshanguve, Pretoria.

For their efforts, the male only group from Atteridgeville pocketed a cool R60 000.

“Township dancers and crews need to be taken serious because with support and encouragement those formations or movements have the potential to keep young people, like us, away from trouble among other things.

Following our winning of the RedSquare dance competition we intend, in our own little way, to play our part in ensuring township dance is given the attention and respect it deserves,” says Given Ngobeni, leader of Survivors’ Crew.

Soulistic Fusion from Dobsonville came out second and took away R10 000.

Other contenders were C-Unit, Wolf Amader, African Revolution, Team Series, USG Crew, Vandals, Panzan Entertainment, Unisextainment, Wise Destroyers, Intellectual Pantsula, RVB, Balfour Revolution, Duduza Young Generation, Rock Stars, and C.I.E.

Next year the competition will grow bigger and better, according to the organisers.
