This is the kind of impact the popular vernacular sitcom had on our fallen hero and of course, the whole country fell in love with it, including yours truly.
However, the sitcom has been hit hard with the passing of its influential stars.
This week ubaba Shadrack Ngema died in hospital due to heart related complications.
Popularly known as “Magubane” and inyanga in the sitcom, the 65 year old passed on this weekend at Prince Mshiyeni Memorial hospital.
His death comes just months after his former co-star Roland Mqwebu “Bab’Mkhize” who also died due to ill health.
In sending his message of condolences to the family and friends President JG Zuma said: “South Africa has lost a familiar voice and face in the arts industry.
He was a very talented and popular actor and comedian who brought laughter and joy to our people. He will be sorely missed. We wish to convey our deepest condolences to his family.
May his soul rest in peace,” said the President in statement.
Although, unconfirmed there were talks of returning the sitcom. The remaining crew is Vusi Thanda (Tshawe), Jabulani Nkosi (Chirwale) and Jerry Phele (Mofokeng).
Ubaba Ngema was also a sport commentator on Ukhozi FM.
Currently, one of SA’s fast food companies KFC is running an Ad featuring these legends of entertainment industry as a sign of dedication and development of arts in the country.
As things stand, my hope of the re-rerun of my best sitcoms is easily fading away, stru!
At time of publishing tributes were still pouring in.
Rest in Peace baba and hope you, Madiba and ubaba Mkhize will have a last laugh at the celestial view.
