The qualified medical doctor replaces the controversial Ndoda Biyela, who is now the KZN Department of Health as its Chief Financial Officer.
In applauding the move, the Inkhatha Freedom Party (IFP) in Gauteng says, Dr Selebano has proven capability to lead the department of out its misery.
“The IFP is inspired by his appointment which we believe should have been made long time ago given the impressive job he did as acting Head of the Department from October 2014 to end of May 2015,” IFP Gauteng Caucus Leader, Bonginkosi Dhlamini said.
Dr Selebano will be the fifth head of department in six years’, thus showing the problems that has beset one of the crucial departments in the Province.
“We believe that his uprightness, great work ethic and diligence will go a long way in stabilizing and uprooting the corruption and malpractice that has marred the Department for years on end.
Thus, his appointment raises an expectation that finally the Department will get its act together and start to deliver on its mandate,” says Dhlamini.
Meanwhile, the KZN head of the legislature’s finance portfolio committee, Sipho “KK” Nkosi, said it would never accept the decision of Biyela being appointed to the post, amidst the cloud hanging over his head.
